GIAHC presented its very first award—the Shobha S. Krishnan Award—to Alice Drain. The award was presented at the 102nd AMWA conference in San Francisco on April 1, 2017.
Alice Drain is a resident in the Department of Urology at NYU Langone Medical Center. She graduated from Yale University with a degree in History before completing a post-baccalaureate program at Johns Hopkins and medical school at NYU. Her interest in medicine developed in 2009 in Kutch, India when she worked with Dr. Krishnan to develop a cervical cancer prevention program for a NGO in that area. Throughout medical school she continued to work with GIAHC, in addition to volunteering in the free clinic and tutoring high school students, and was the recipient of the Community Service and the Gold Humanism Honor Society awards. She remains interested in women’s health and completed an MSCI degree with research focused on Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. She looks forward to further developing GIAHC’s student leadership group and finding innovative ways to spread awareness about HPV and cervical cancer.
The Shobha S. Krishnan Award will be presented to a candidate who has demonstrated exemplary interest and creativity in making a positive difference in HPV and cervical cancer prevention. The award comes with a trophy, cash gift and a letter of appreciation.
