Madelon L. Finkel, PhD

Madelon L. Finkel, PhD is professor of Population Health Sciences, Clinical Healthcare Policy and Research and Clinical Public Health at the Weill Cornell Medical College , New York. She is also the director of the Office of Global Health Education at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. She is also Population Sciences Curriculum Leader in the area of concentration curriculum. Dr. Finkel earned her BA, MPA, and Ph.D. from New York University. She was a Visiting Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Sydney (Australia), in 2004, and at Chulalongkorn University Medical College (Bangkok, Thailand) in 2016. In 2008 was named a Fulbright Senior Specialist awarded by The Fulbright Program.

Dr. Finkel has been involved in epidemiological research and global health care policy studies over the past decades. Her current research focuses on a cervical cancer screening project in rural Tamil Nadu, India, as well as in Moshi Tanzania. She conducted an epidemiologic study of cervical cancer among inner city women in Lima, Peru. Dr. Finkel is an acknowledged leading researcher on the global health impact of hydraulic fracturing and its impact on human health and the environment. Dr. Finkel has served as consultant to numerous organizations, including law firms and pharmaceutical companies, in the areas of epidemiology, health care policy, and Public Health. She serves as Secretary of the Board of the Christian Medical College, Vellore (India). She was named Series Editor in Public Health for Praeger Press in 2013. Dr Finkel has been awarded the highest teaching honor at Weill Cornell Medical College, the Excellence in Teaching Award, six times in the past decade. This honor is bestowed to those professors who are nominated and elected by students and the administration. She was awarded the Bruce Laine Ballard, MD Award for Excellence in Mentoring from Weill Cornell Medical College, and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award 2018 (in education). 

Dr. Finkel has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles on a variety of Public Health topics ans is also the author of 15 books.
